On my Facebook page Interaction Imagination I have been sharing inspiration photos from artists creating land art, environmental art and/or ephemeral art.
My intention has been to create inspiration connected to nature... to encourage educators to take their children outside and create their rather than collecting nature and bringing it back to the classroom to create with.
Part of this comes from my visit to Australia and spending time with Red Ruby Scarlet and learning about the Aboriginal respect for nature and the ecosystem. That we should not be taking things from the ecosystem... that leaves, seeds, twigs etc are all a part of the ecosystem... they are broken down, become food, become soil and continue to contribute to the well being of our planet.
If we are removing things from this circle of life then we are changing it. The idea is to ONLY take and use things that we really need.
if we see things that do not belong in nature, like plastic, rubbish (at the beach sea glass too) - in otherwords things humans have put into nature through carelessness, then these can be removed from the ecosystem, as both benefit to the nature and also to be used as loose parts - as the artist Tim Pugh who collects plastic he finds on the beach and creates art with it, as a way to create awareness, as well as art.
While creating art with nature that can then return to nature is a more planet friendly way of using nature as loose parts, we need to also reflect on how we are collecting the natural parts in nature too...
Large stones can be the homes of many small living creatures... finding refuge underneath them... and dislodging them can be extremely disturbing or even destructive. So think about taking pieces of nature that are not going to disturb the natural life cycle of the animals and plants.
When it comes to finding insects, amphibians etc in nature, it is often the desire of young children to collect them, and take them home/back to preschool. Many animals should not be moved from their home... especially amphibians. it is better to observe them in their natural habitat, take photos and films, but let them be. In spring a small amount of frog/toadspawn may be collected and taken back so that the children can observe the process from egg to frogs. It is important that the tadpoles/frogs are then returned to the SAME water source that they were collected from.
Please take the time to check out the inspiration on my page... but remember when you go out into nature to be respectful.
Also take the time to think about which artists you are using as inspiration - try and have a mix of male and female artists, and also a mix of artists from different cultures and countries... do the children notice any similarities and differences. Which art do they connect to the most.
Land art is so much more than Andy Goldsworthy, who seems to be the most well-known artists referred to by educators when it comes to being outdoors
Also with today's technology it makes it easier to create a different kind of nature art... where children take photos of nature, use green screens and other technological tools to create art, and tell a story.

På min Facebook-sida Interaction Imagination har jag delat inspirationsfoton från konstnärer som skapat land-konst, miljökonst och /eller efemär (kortlivad) konst.
Min avsikt har varit att skapa inspiration kopplad till naturen ... att uppmuntra lärare att ta sina barn utomhus och skapa snarare än att samla naturen och föra tillbaka den till klassrummet(förskolan för att skapa med.
En del av detta kommer från mitt besök i Australien där jag tillbringade tid med Red Ruby Scarlet och lära mig om den aboriginska respekten för naturen och ekosystemet. Att vi inte ska ta saker från ekosystemet ... att löv, frön, kvistar osv är alla en del av ekosystemet ... de bryts ned, blir mat, blir jord och fortsätter att bidra till jordens välbefinnande.
Om vi tar bort saker från denna livscirkel så förändrar vi det. Tanken är att ENDAST ta och använda saker som vi verkligen behöver.
om vi ser saker som inte hör hemma i naturen, som plast, skräp (på stranden havsglas) - med andra ord saker som människor har lagt in i naturen genom slarv - så kan dessa tas bort från ekosystemet, eftersom det både gynnar naturen och även kan användas som lösa delar - som konstnären Tim Pugh som samlar plast han hittar på stranden och skapar konst med det, som ett sätt att skapa medvetenhet kring plast/nedskräpning och konst.
Att vi kan skapa konst med naturen som sedan kan nedbrytas i naturen är ett mer planetvänligt sätt att använda naturen som lösa delar, måste vi också reflektera över hur vi samlar de naturliga delarna i naturen också ...
Stora stenar kan vara hem för många små levande varelser ... att hitta tillflykt under dem ... och att lossa stenarna kan vara extremt störande eller till och med destruktivt. Så tänk på att samla naturen som inte kommer att störa djurens och växternas naturliga livscykel.
När det gäller att hitta insekter, paddor, grodor osv i naturen är det ofta barns önskan att samla in dem och ta dem hem/tillbaka till förskolan. Många djur bör inte flyttas från sitt hem ... särskilt grodor och paddor. Det är bättre att observera dem i deras naturliga livsmiljö, ta foton och filmer, men låt dem vara. På våren kan en liten mängd groda/padda-ägg samlas upp och tas tillbaka så att barnen kan se processen från ägg till grodor. Det är viktigt att grodyngling/grodorna sedan återförs till SAMMA vattenkällan som de samlades in från.
Ta dig tid att kolla in inspiration på min sida ... men kom ihåg när du går ut i naturen att ni ska vara respektfull.
Ta dig också tid att tänka på vilka artister ni använder som inspiration - prova på att ha en blandning av manliga och kvinnliga konstnärer, och också en blandning av konstnärer från olika kulturer och länder ... märker barnen likheter och skillnader? Vilken konst ansluter de mest till.
Land-konst är så mycket mer än Andy Goldsworthy, som verkar vara de mest kända konstnärer som lärare hänvisar till när det gäller att vara utomhus Också värt att tänka på... det finns mycket digital verktyg som tillåter en annan sorts konst sopande... med green screen osv
